POLAR BEARS HELP THE SHELTER

At this years Sand Castle Days, SPI’s long-swimming Polar Bear Club made a $1,000 donation to the LMHS. All polar bears are welcomed visitors at the Shelter and we might even bring along a few participants for January 1’s Gulf dip. The Staff, Board, and communities we serve are so very grateful for this type of support. The Club also made a sizable donation to the Boys & Girls Club

Providing Shelter from the storm

The new faces of the Laguna Madre Humane Society

The Laguna Madre Humane Society would like to reassure our supporters and reintroduce you to our commitment, our goals and our duties to support the animals in the Port Isabel Animal Shelter.  In spite of the problems and conflicts over these past few months, the board of volunteers continues to work at the Shelter Dear business owner,

The Laguna Madre Humane Society invites you to participate in our fund raiser,

Meows, Mutts & Margaritas, Sunday, June 5th, 2011

at the

to assure the health and safety of the animals.  LMHS is strongly committed to programs for heartworm treatment, spay & neuter, education, and of course, adoption.  We are also developing a strong foster program.

The LMHS is in need of funds to support these programs.  Your generous contributions will be put to good use and for the sole purpose of the welfare of these animals.

For a minimum donation of $250.00, the LMHS offers you the opportunity to advertise the night of the event and for the rest of the year on Pelican West’s high-definition projection system featured in the Casablanca Lounge at the Suites at Sunchase Hotel and Condominiums. The system features an 11’ by 5’ projection screen at center stage that attracts the attention of every customer in the club.  Presented in an environment based upon entertainment, the Club Pelican West big screen at the focal point of the fun has proven to be a very impressionable and effective advertising tool.

Thank you for taking the time to consider donating some of your hard earned money for this great cause.  We hope you will join us at our fundraiser!

The Laguna Madre Humane Society provides a “no kill” animal shelter serving the communities of Port Isabel and South Padre Island Texas.  With an all-volunteer Board and a small but hard working shelter staff of only eight, LMHS provides care and love for over 270 animals every day, 365 days a year.  Animals are sheltered, fed, cleaned, medicated if ill, exercised, and otherwise comforted by the staff and a growing number of volunteers.  The sole mission of the shelter is to provide this care until you come to select and adopt your next pet.

Lmhs Today, the extensive and informative website of LMHS, is trying to make a convincing argument for you to share in our mission.  The Laguna Madre Humane Society has accepted the moral obligation and responsibility to provide for the area’s abandoned, turned over, and feral cats and dogs.  We are the only “no kill” shelter in the lower Rio Grande Valley.

Doing the right thing is sometimes very hard to do.  Running a shelter where our residents are welcomed for life, with new arrivals showing up daily, very quickly can lead to a  NO VACANCY  situation unless our communities are fully involved.  In these hard economic times LMHS finds itself facing increased pet abandonment and declining adoptions, both situations leading to an over-crowding condition.  This, coupled with declining  donors and donations, puts our communities and shelter at risk.

We do all that we can to make it easier for you to help.  We are open to the public 7 days a week, we provide multiple sites to present animals for adoption, we have donation boxes throughout the community…we even have a Thrift Shop where you can purchase clothing and other items, all for the benefit of the shelter.

Please enjoy your time while visiting our website: looking at pictures of our animals—each one eager to meet you; reading about our up-coming events; reading about our donors who mean the world to us and your animals.  Come back often as the contents will always be fresh.  But most of all, we hope that something you run across here will tug at your heartstrings and cause to examine the many ways you can help us make doing the right thing easier.
